Choosing a Baby Name Made Easy!

Fetal Photos by Cara • October 1, 2022

Many new parents get anxious about the responsibilities that come with having a baby. The thought of being responsible for every aspect of a person’s life, no matter how small, can be terrifying.

However, it doesn’t need to be. With proper planning and a level head, everything that

appears to be a problem will simply melt away. Don’t believe us? We’ll show you!

One of the most important decisions you’ll make for your child is coming up with a name for

them. It is a decision that will impact every social encounter they have, and will likely also shape

their personality. No pressure! Let’s walk you through some things you need to keep in mind

while fishing for names!

Always, Always Search for Meanings

Lola is a great name. However, it also means “Sorrow.” Similarly, Calvin is pretty popular but it

means “Little Bald One.” As you can imagine, learning what their name means might bum your

child out in the future–especially when their friends ask what their name means. Save them the

embarrassment by picking something that’s epic.

Plan Ahead for Nasty Nicknames

Children can be little stinkers to each other. The creativity and brilliance with which children can

give each other nicknames are very well-documented. Mostly, these nicknames come from their

actual names or variations. So, before you decide on one, use that child brain you left in school

to consider every nickname that can come out of the name you want to give your child. Recruit

your friends and family, too! Make a day out of it!

Watch the Initials, Too

Franklin Charles Kennedy has a regal ring to it, sure, but when reduced to F. C. K., it becomes

something of an embarrassing problem. Initials are not things we commonly consider when

thinking about names, but they’re no doubt important. To avoid embarrassment for your child,

always write out the name in initials. They’ll thank you for it.

Don’t Forget Your Culture

America is a melting pot. Diversity is one of the country’s greatest resources because people

from all over the world come here and slowly get integrated into it. And with them, they bring

their own cultural heritage. Don’t be shy in honoring your customs and giving your child a name

representative of your culture! From the Polish Rika to the Indian Shishir, and from the Russian

Darya to the Ghanaian Ashantee, there are plenty of ways for you to embed your culture in your

child and don’t forget Fetal Photos by Cara for your elective 3D Ultrasound.
